I use D'Addarios Chromes 11-52 but I replace the 1st & 2nd string with a 13 and a 17.
The tone pots are push-pull for in and out of phase settings and the only modifications are; wiring so there is only one volume and the bottom front pot is now a variable pot between the two pickups. Nut replaced with a graphite nut.

This guitar started out it's life as a 20th Anniversary Squier.
I don't particularly like the hard edge of Fender pickups but I like the feel of the body and the necks.
I changed the pickups to:
Bridge; Dimarzio D Actvator-X Humbucker
Neck; X2N Bright Humbucker, both very hot .
Once again I re-wired so that there is one volume, one tone and a variable pot between the two pickups. I changed the machine heads to Steinberger Gearless Tuners. I had problems changing the first and second string because they would jam into the mechanism. Because I really liked the Steinbergers, I only replaced the 1st and 2nd tuners with Schaller Locking Machines.
Next modification will be a Floyd Rose Bridge
